Current Route 6 cuts the northwest corner of Harlan County and passes through no towns in the process. An early segment dipped deeper into the county and visited Oxford on the Republican River. Route 6 follows this scenic river from Oxford westward through McCook to Culbertson. Today, most of Route 6 through the county looks much like the photo below, the road's undulating form providing occasional glimpses of the Republican River Valley to the south.
